Springfield, Mass. – April 13, 2025 – The Springfield College women's tennis team blanked Clark University, 7-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Sunday morning on the Appleton Tennis Courts.
Springfield, which won its fourth straight 7-0 decision, improved to 8-3 overall and to 3-1 in NEWMAC play, while Clark fell to 2-12, 0-5.
In doubles action, Springfield eased by the Cougars.
Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) and
Ramida Manataweewat (Bangkok, Thailand) earned a 6-1 decision at No. 1 and was followed by
Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.) and
Natalia Peyon (Hong Kong), who won 6-2 at No. 2 and
Ava Shea (Belchertown, Mass.) and
Grace Tyler (Longmeadow, Mass.), who won 6-3 at No. 3.
Springfield went on to win all six singles matches in straight sets. Vettayawaikoon won 6-0, 6-1 No. 1,
Gabby Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 and McGoldrick won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3. At the bottom of the ladder, Shea won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, Peyon won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 and Emily Chaisson won 6-2, 6-3.
Springfield will travel to nationally-ranked MIT on Tuesday at 3:30 pm.
