Uxbridge, Mass. - September 20, 2025 - The Springfield college golf team is in third place after the opening round of the 2025 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships, which are taking place at Blissful Meadows Golf Club.
Playing the par 72 course that measured 6,680 yards, Springfield registered a first round score of 322 (+34). Marymount sits in first place with a 316 (+28) and Salem State is in second with a 321 (+33). Westfield State and MCLA are tied for fourth with a 336 (+48), Marywood is in sixth with a 338 (+50) and Worcester State is in seventh with a 357 (+69). The winner of the two-day event will earn the MASCAC's bid into the 2026 NCAA Division III Championships, which will be held May 12-15 at Mission Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
Springfield first year
Ryan Wood (Foxborough, Mass.) individual sits in second place overall as he registered a 77 (+5) just one stroke behind Chase Manion of Marymout for the lead. Wood birdied the 405-yard par four 17th and finished with a par of the 420-yard par four 18th to round out his first day of the championship.
David Girouard (Chicopee, Mass.) is in fifth place with a 79 (+7) after his initial round as he posted a par on 12 of 18 holes this morning.
Matthew Kumpulanian (Wilbraham, Mass.) is tied for eighth after day one with an 83 (+11) as he recorded a birdie on the 328-yard par four seventh and six pars in his round, while
Amir Ardolino (Wilbraham, Mass.) also notched an 83 (+11) as he birdied the 363-yard par four fourth and added eight pars to his day on the links.
Aidan Strebel (Branford, Conn.) finished his first round with a 90 (+18) with seven pars on the day.
Springfield will tee off beginning at 10:50 am tomorrow morning to wrap up the championship.
