Softball Loses Two Games In Third Day of Rebel Games

Kissimmee, Fla. – March 15, 2011 – The Springfield College softball team dropped a pair of games on Tuesday in the Rebel Spring Games. In its first game, the Pride surrendered five runs in the opening inning as it lost a 12-1 decision in six innings to Rowan. It its second game, Simpson squeaked out a 3-2 win over the Pride.

With the two losses, Springfield falls to 2-4.

Against Rowan, starter Katie Anderson didn’t get out of the first inning and she gave up five straight hits en route to five early runs. She was relieved by Jen Joseph, who surrendered seven earned runs off seven hits over the final six innings.

Springfield trailed 7-0 after three innings of play before it scored its lone run in the fourth. Melanie Scuderi laced a single to left which plated Amanda Novak, who had previously ripped a two-out triple into left center field.

Rowan tacked on another run in the fifth, before scoring four times in the sixth to go up 12-1 and end the game on the mercy-rule. Springfield had five hits in the game, compared to 12 by Rowan.

In the loss to Simpson, Springfield surrendered a two-out, walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh. Simpson led off the inning with a single and after a pair of outs, scored the game-winning run on a double. The Pride was limited to just one hit in the game.
