Springfield, Mass. – January 12, 2013 – The Springfield College men’s swimming and diving team handled visiting New York University, 164-123, on Saturday afternoon in the Linkletter Natatorium.
John Vatkevich had a strong day in the distance events as he took first in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:16.01 and won the 500 free in 4:57.84.
Travis Morse picked up a pair of wins, winning the 100 back in 54.39, and capturing the 200 back after recording a 2:01.11 In the breaststroke, Michael Normoyle continued to deliver, capturing the 100 breast in 1:00.04 and the 200 breast in 2:12.43. The first-year also swam the fastest time in the 200 IM with a 2:01.94.
Additionally, in the 200 free, Jason Scotto touched first in 1:47.06 and Pat Geraghty won the 200 fly in 2:01.27.
On the diving boards, Kenny Pancoast won the three-meter with a national-qualifying score of 311.33. Teammate Jack Lewis was the runner up in the event, also meeting qualifying standards for nationals with a 287.55. Later on the one-meter, Pancoast had the top score and added his second qualifying mark of the day with a 289.65.
The Pride closed out the meet with the fastest time in the 400 free relay as Scotto, Hayden Cassidy, Scott Peters, and Nolan Manley combined to swim a 3:18.39.
Next Saturday, the Pride will travel to clash with Williams at 1:00 pm.
