Softball Topples Endicott, 7-3, Before Falling to Anderson, 2-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Kissimmee, Fla. – March 21, 2013 – The Springfield College softball team split a pair of games on Thursday morning in the Rebel Games. The Pride opened up the day with a 7-3 win over Endicott, before Anderson prevailed with a 2-1 win over Springfield. With the split, Springfield now owns a 3-5 record.

Against Endicott, the Pride racked up 13 hits, with Jenna Webb continuing her torrid start to the season with a 3-for-4 performance. Breann Joyce, Christina Leader, and Kelly Blake each produced two hits, and Ashley Marino had a strong showing in the circle with eight strikeouts.

Springfield wasted little time taking control of the contest against the Gulls, plating three runs in the first inning. After Blake singled and stole second, Webb smacked a RBI single through the right side. Joyce followed that up her first round-tripper of the season to give the Pride a 3-0 cushion.

Webb added another RBI single up the middle in the fifth to score Melissa Nelson, only to have Endicott make it a one-run game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to three Pride errors.

The Pride put the game away in the top of the seventh with three runs of their own as Leader cracked an RBI triple and both Blake and Joyce drove in runs off singles.

The Pride was limited to just three hits against Anderson, with Webb going 2-for-3 from the plate. Joyce added the Pride’s other hit on the day. Jennifer Joseph scattered five hits and struck out seven as she allowed a pair of earned runs.

Samantha Ste led off the game with a single and was driven home from second on a single up the middle. With the bases juiced in the third, Springfield took advantage of a passed ball to even the game as Samantha Rentz crossed the plate.

However, thanks to a solo homer by Meagan Ream in the fourth, the Pride dropped its third one-run game of the early season.

Springfield will play the final games of its Spring Break trip on Friday as it takes on both Anderson and Rowan.
