Clermont, Fla. – March 21, 2014 - The Springfield College softball team played its final pair of games in Florida on Friday, falling to Hamilton, 3-0 in the morning, then rebounding the beat Plymouth State, 6-2 in the afternoon.
Springfield closes out its Spring Break trip with a record of 7-2 and will play again on Tuesday, traveling to Keene State for a doubleheader at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
Hamilton 3, Springfield 0:
The Pride suffered just its second loss of the season on Friday morning, 3-0 to Hamilton.
Hamilton scored all three runs in the second inning and that was all they needed to come away with the win. Springfield had eight hits to Hamilton’s five, but the Pride couldn’t get on the board.
Tasha Polana (Orange, Mass.) led Springfield’s offense, going 2-for-3 while Camdyn Morgillo (West Haven, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with a double.
Springfield 6, Plymouth State 2:
In Friday afternoon’s game against Plymouth State, the Pride redeemed itself with its seventh win of the season and the trip.
Springfield scored once in the first, then didn’t score again until the fifth inning. The Pride posted three runs in the top of the fifth to go up 4-0, but Plymouth State made it a 4-2 game with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Springfield picked up two insurance runs in the sixth en route to the win.
The Pride had 10 hits in the game, led by Brielle Engelbrecht (Granby, Mass.), who went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, one RBI, a double and two stolen bases. Jenna Webb (Harrison, N.Y.) went 2-for-3, including a double, plus two runs scored. Taylor Shaker (Fall River, Mass.) also had a multi-hit day, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Jennifer Joseph (Stamford, Conn.) earned her third win of the season, allowing five hits over seven innings, striking out seven.
