Box Score Westfield, Mass. – September 13, 2014 – A goal by sophomore Matt Dickmann (Paxton, Mass.) with 21:38 remaining in the contest lifted the Springfield College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Westfield State Owls on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
With the win, the Pride improve to 2-0-2 on the season, while Westfield State falls to 1-3-1 in 2014.
With just under 22 minutes remaining in the contest, Sotir Roba (Worcester, Mass.) took a shot from just outside the box that was saved by Westfield State goalkeeper, Keith Hevey (Chicopee, Mass.). However, the loose ball was gathered by senior captain Drew Sommer (West Chester, Pa.) who fired a second shot, only to have the rebound bounce right to Dickmann who found the back of the net for the game's only tally.
Springfield out shot the Owls 22-5 in the contest, with the Pride landing 10 shots on the cage, while Westfield State was only able to muster 1 shot on net, giving junior goalkeeper Billy Schmid (Wethersfield, Conn.) one save and his second win of the season. Schmid's counterpart, Hevey finished the contest with nine saves.
Up next, Springfield will travel to Western Connecticut State on Tuesday, September 16 to take on the Colonials. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
