Cortland 3, Springfield 2

Springfield and Cortland faced off for what would be a pitchers dual, with only five runs accounted for over eight innings of play.

Kirsten Drobiak (Jewett City, Conn.) poked the ball into play in the bottom of the first, to reach safely and send Melissa Nelson (Milford, Conn.) home to set the tone for Springfield.

The Pride would add another run in the bottom of the second off a single to left field by Elizabeth Joseph (Stamford, Conn.) to send Mackenzie Navarro (Taunton, Mass.) around to score.

The score stayed at 2-0 in Springfield's favor until the sixth inning when Cortland's bats started to heat up.  Erin Wolstenholme reached first on an error, which allowed Bianca Trio to move to second base.  A groundout put the runners in scoring position for Carrie Stoddard, who punched a single to the outfield to tie the score up at 2-2.

Springfield found itself in extra innings, for the second time in nine games.

In the top of the 8th Cortland's Wolsten reached base via a fielder's choice, putting what would be the fate of the game in Devynn Wilder's hands.  With one out, Wilder drilled a triple to right field, allowing Wolstenholme to ease home and put Cortland up 3-2.

Navarro would single in the bottom of the 8th, but that would not be enough for the Pride as Cortland solidified the 3-2 victory.

Camdyn Morgillo (West Haven, Conn.) took the loss for the Pride, as she surrendered eight hits in just as many innings.  Navarro had a solid outing at the plate, as she tallied three hits in four at-batsTasha Polana (Orange, Mass.), Joseph and Brielle Engelbrecht (Granby, Mass.) all had hits for the Pride.
