Loda Shines in Softball's Key NEWMAC Doubleheader Sweep of Clark

Springfield, Mass. - April 15, 2016 - Led by a career performance from sophomore Talia Loda (East Haven, Conn.), the Springfield College softball program picked up a pair of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victories over Clark on Friday afternoon at Potter Field.

With the wins, Springfield pushes its win streak to six and is now 19-9 overall, with a conference record of 8-4, while the Cougars fall to 10-21 on the year, with a mark of 1-11 in league play.

Springfield will look to stay hot against Babson on Saturday, April 16 when it will host the Beavers at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Springfield 6, Clark 0 -- Game One

Loda pitched a complete-game, allowing just six hits while striking out a career-best 10 batters, while also notching a pair of RBI including her first-career home run, en route to a 6-0 win over the Cougars in the first leg of the doubleheader on Friday afternoon.

Loda picked up her eighth win of the season, as she improved to 8-5, while for the Cougars, Sami West (Gonic, N.H.) took the loss, pitching 6.0 innings, giving up 12 hits and six runs while fanning six Springfield batters.

At the plate, Loda, Melissa Nelson (Milford, Conn.), Jenna Webb (Harrison, N.Y.) and Kirsten Drobiak (Griswold, Conn.) all registered two hits, while Nelson, Webb and Elizabeth Joseph (Stamford, Conn.) all tallied RBI in the win.

Springfield struck first in the bottom of the third when Loda laid down a sacrifice bunt to push Emily Reynolds (Charlton, Mass.) to second, but a botched throw allowed Reynolds to score to make it 1-0, Pride.

In the bottom of the fifth, Loda took the first pitch she saw over the center-field fence to make it 2-0, before Joseph singled, bringing in Nelson from second to make it 3-0, Springfield.

The Pride would add three more in its ensuing at bat to seal the win, as Loda drove in Kayla Padroff (Southington, Conn.) with an RBI single to center, before Nelson drove in Reynolds with a sacrifice fly, and Webb pushed Loda across the plate with an RBI single to short.

Springfield 8, Clark 4 -- Game Two

Five student-athletes registered at least one RBI, and four had multi-hit games as the Pride took the second of two games, 8-4, over Clark on Friday afternoon at Potter Field.

Dani Gray (Milford, Conn.) posted a team-best two RBI, as Nelson, Webb, Joseph and Mackenzie Navarro (Taunton, Mass.) all batted in runs in the win.

In the circle, Nicole Cring (Cooperstown, N.Y.) got the win, as she pitched 3.0 innings of two-hit ball, giving up one run and striking out four. Jordyn Moquin (Plantsville, Conn.) and Shelby Allen (Oakland, N.J.) split the final 4.0 innings, picking up five combined strikeouts.

For the Cougars, Brenna Foley (Charlton, Mass.) took the loss, as she only survived 1.0 innings, giving up five hits, five runs, but only one was earned. Taylor Erickson (Natick, Mass.) came on to pitch 5.0 frames, giving up seven hits and three runs.

After Clark struck in the top of the first to make it 1-0, Springfield answered with five runs in the bottom half, including a two-RBI single from Gray to make it 5-1, Springfield, after one.

The Pride would add two more in the bottom of the fourth when Navarro singled to short, driving in Webb, before a passed ball allowed Joseph to score and make it 7-1, Pride.

After three runs from the Cougars in the top of the fifth, Springfield sealed the deal with an RBI single from Nelson to score Carianna Gasdia (Wakefield, Mass.), making it 8-4, Springfield.
