Career Performances Lead Men's Lacrosse Past Mass Maritime, 18-6

Buzzards Bay, Mass. - April 9, 2016 - Seniors Dylan Sheehan (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Kevin Dean (Westhampton, N.Y.), and sophomore Tom Hurley (Goffstown, N.H.) registered career-best performances to fuel the Springfield College men's lacrosse program to a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory over the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 18-6, on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Field.

With the win, Springfield is now 4-6 on the season and 2-0 in league play, while the Buccaneers fall to 5-6 overall with a 1-1 mark in the NEWMAC.

For Springfield, Sheehan registered a career-best nine points, including three goals and six assists, while Dean tied his career-high six points when he scored five goals and assisted on another. Hurley pumped in a career-best eight goals in the win. Additionally, Tyler Heckmann (Brookfield, Conn.) was 12-for-23 from the face-off "x" and collected a game-high seven ground balls.

In net, Jake Reynolds (Scituate, Mass.) earned the win as he made a 11 saves in the first half, while Chris Santaniello (West Springfield, Mass.) and Greg Macchi (Hastings on Hudson, N.Y.) split the second to preserve the win for the Pride.

Springfield took an early 2-0 lead just 5:15 into the contest on back-to-back goals from Hurley, before Mass Maritime cut its deficit in half with a goal just six seconds later. Following the Buccaneers tally, Springfield rattled off four-straight goals to end the first quarter, including markers from Sheehan, Dean, Hurley and another from Dean with 2:10 to go in the stanza.

Springfield College junior Brendan Dooley (Setauket, N.Y.) pushed the Pride's lead to six just 1:05 into the second quarter, before another goal from Mass Maritime just eight seconds later kept the Buccaneers within five.

From there, Dean found Sheehan for an easy finish on the crease, before Dean capitalized on a man-up opportunity, when Dom Abate (Beverly, Mass.) set him up for his third of the contest to make it 9-2 with 10:09 to go in the half. Springfield got three more goals before half, including tallies from Sheehan, Dean and Hurley to give the Pride a 12-2 lead at the break.

Hurley pumped in a couple more goals off feeds from Sheehan and Ty Daugstrup (Rocky River, Ohio) to begin the second half, before Phillip Dumont (Watertown, Mass.), Hurley and Dean all scored to make it 17-2, Pride, with 5:45 left in the third. Mass Maritime would score three quick ones to end the third quarter, before adding another just 2:22 into the fourth to make it an 11-point game.

Hurley finished off a feed from Sheehan with 6:46 to go in the game to seal the 18-6 win for Springfield.

Up next, the Pride will return to Stagg Field and will host Middlebury College on Wednesday, April 13 at 5 p.m.
