Baseball Wins 11-10 Battle With Becker in Non-Conference Play

Box Score

Leicester, Mass. - April 3, 2019 - The Springfield College baseball team played a back-and-forth offensive affair with Becker in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Rochdale Field, as the Pride prevailed over the Hawks, 11-10, in a game that came down to the final out.

With the win, the Pride is now 10-9 on the year, while the Hawks fall to 7-12 with the setback.

Freshman pitcher Mitch Wright (Clifton Park, N.Y.) got the nod and pitched 4.0 frames, giving up 11 hits and five earned runs while striking out five. Cole Donovan (Holderness, N.H.) came on in relief and pitched 4.0 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run en route to his first win of the year. At the plate, junior Kyle Godfrey (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) had a productive day as he went 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI, which included his first home run as a member of the Pride.

Springfield College got right to work as the Pride earned a run in the top of first on an RBI single from Noah Bleakley (Granby, Mass.) that scored Eduardo Martinez (Southwick, Mass.), before Becker took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Bleakley picked up his second RBI of the game in the top of the third when his ball scored Jake McAneny (Lebanon, Conn.) to make it 2-2, before the maroon and white took a 4-2 lead on a two-run blast off the bat of Godfrey.

Senior Cam Rivest (Agawam, Mass.) would score on a sacrifice fly from McAneny to give the Pride a 5-1 cushion later in the frame, before the Hawks rattled off three in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 5-5 game after four.

Answering the bell in the top of the fifth inning, Godfrey picked up his third and fourth RBI on a single through the left side that plated Bleakley and Jack Simonetty (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) to help Springfield College regain a two-run lead, before Becker once again tied the game up with a run in the bottom of the fifth and one more in the bottom of the sixth.

All even at seven heading to the top of the seventh, a two-run double from Matt Fraioli (Stamford, Conn.) plated Godfrey and Nick Fazio (Kings Park, N.Y.) to help the Pride back to a two-run cushion, before Conor Santoianni (Stormville, N.Y.) doubled to left field, scoring McAneny and Fraioli, making it 11-7, maroon and white.

Becker would rally for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Duncan Satterlee (Albany, N.Y.) would get the final out to preserve the one-run win for Springfield College.

Up next, Springfield College will return to Archie Allen Field on Thursday, April 4 for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference tilt with Colby-Sawyer.
