Middlebury Delivers 15-7 Win Over Men's Lacrosse

Middlebury, Vt. - April 9, 2019 - Playing its final non-conference game of the regular season, the Springfield College men's lacrosse team was bested by Middlebury, 15-7, on Tuesday afternoon.

The victory boosted the host Panthers record to 5-6, while Springfield dropped to 4-8. 

For the Pride, Jack Vail (Franklin, Mass.) totaled three goals and an assist, Lucas Habich (Little Silver, N.J.) posted two goals and a helper, and Joe Hawley (Poulsbo, Wash.) added a goal and two assists.  Between the pipes, Cole Finerty (Kensington, N.H.) registered 19 saves, marking the seventh game this season he's made at least 15 stops.  

Middlebury owned a 62-22 advantage in shots for the game, including a 37-7 edge through the opening 30 minutes of play.  The Panthers won the ground ball battle, 46-30, while Springfield committed 30 turnovers in the contest.

Middlebury netted the game's first goal just 16 seconds into the contest and built a 6-0 lead after 15 minutes of play as they outshot the Pride by an 18-2 margin.  After three more goals in the second gave the Panthers a 9-0 edge at break, the hosts lead ballooned to 15-0 with 7:34 remaining in the third.  Just 45 seconds later, Vail netted Springfield's first goal of the game before Habich netted an unassisted man-up marker with 1:26 left in the stanza.

Over a 3:37 span in the fourth quarter, the Pride pumped in five goals, including a pair from Vail, to close out the scoring for the 15-7 final.

The Pride will return to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday when it travels to play at Mass. Maritime for a 12 pm contest.
