Box Score Wenham, Mass. - October 26, 2021 - In their final road game of the season, the Springfield College field hockey team rallied for a 3-2 victory at Gordon College on a rainy, Tuesday afternoon.
The win lifted the Pride to 5-10 on the year, while Gordon dropped to 1-11. Each team had 14 shots in the contest, but it was Springfield that owned a 7-3 advantage on penalty corners.
Lyndsey DeLasho (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) needed to make just two saves to chalk up another win in goal for the Pride.
The Fighting Scots opened up the scoring at the 8:45 mark, but the Pride answered right back, getting a strike from Grace Majka (Simsbury, Conn.) off a feed from Carly Torrance (Concord, N.H.). Neither team would score for the remainder of the first half, but Gordon would again retake the lead just under six minutes into the third quarter on another unassisted goal. However, Sydney Harris (Longmeadow, Mass.) would bury her first collegiate goal less than four minutes later to knot the game up at 2-2.
With time winding down in regulation, Springfield's offense poured on the pressure, and Gabby Inkel (South Windsor, Conn.) ripped a centering pass from the endline that skipped through Gordon's defense to Emma Wesoloski (South Deerfield, Mass.) who was alone on the back post. Wesolski made the most of her opportunity, as she collected the feed and lifted over a sprawling goalie to the game-winning marker with less than two minutes on the clock.
Springfield will complete non-conference play on Thursday when it hosts Western New England at 6 pm.
