Men's Swimming and Diving Cruises Past Babson

Springfield, Mass. - November 14, 2021 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team cruised past Babson College,163-136 , on Sunday afternoon in the Art Linkletter Natatorium.

Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) won the three-meter board with a 302.93 and victorious in one-meter diving with a score of 278.93. Sean Andrews (Framingham, Mass.) placed second in the three-meter with 291.68 and Kaleb Osborne (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored 267.83 in the one-meter to finish in second place.

To start the meet, Springfield's 200 medley relay of Owen Oldenburg (East Longmeadow, Mass.), Antonio Anastasiades (Wakefield, Mass.), Niko Duarte (Plymouth, Mass.), and Dominic Marco (Bath, Maine) combined to swim a 1:37.19. 

Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong) had a strong showing in the 1,000 free as he produced a first-place finish with a time of 10:08.29, while his brother James Chan (Hong Kong) took first in the 200 free with a 1:48.84. Jordan McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago) clocked in first for the Pride in the 100 back in 54.72, while in the 200 back event, Oldenburg touched in a team-best 2:04.13 speed. Anastasiades posted a winning time of 1:00.04 in the 100 breast to take the first position, while James Chan clocked in first in the 200 fly in 1:56.81 and turned in a time of 52.16 in the 100 fly for a first place finish. 

Springfield's top finisher in the 50-free was Marco as the junior narrowly missed a first-place finish with a time of 22.45, meanwhile Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.) collected a strong finish in the 100 free with a 48.83 time, which was good for second place. Oldenburg had a strong finish in the 200 back with a 2:04.13, while Jonathan Chan finished first in the 500 free by registering a 4:57.66 time in the event. 

Anastasiades put together a 2:13.27 performance in the 200 breast to claim Springfield's top finish, and Jonathan Chan claimed a top two finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.36. 

In the final event of the afternoon, James Chan, McMillan, Jensen, and Jonathan Chan were the first team to clock in with a time of 3:13.03 in the 400 free relay.

The Pride will look to keep its momentum going into their next meet as they compete this upcoming Friday against Williams at 6:00 pm.
