Wrestling Finishes Eighth At Doug Parker Invitational

Springfield, Mass. - November 20, 2021- The Springfield College wrestling program hosted the Doug Parker Invitational on Saturday in the Springfield College Field House, marking their first home competition in 644 days.

Of the 14 teams in the competition, the Pride took eighth as it finished with 68.5 points on the afternoon. Coast Guard won the Invitational with 162.5 points as the Bears had three champions, four runner-ups, and three third-place finishes.  Centenary (99), Western New England (84.5), Williams (83.5), and Southern Maine (80) rounded out the top five. 

Chris Trelli (Bristol, Conn.) had the Pride's best showing as he took second at 141 pounds.  Entering the meet ranked No. 3 in the nation in the weight class, Trelli began his day with an 18-1 technical fall over  Tristan Julian from WNE, and then got past New England College's Daijawn Hudson with a 16-0 technical fall.  In the semifinals, Trelli prevailed over Xavier Pena of Centenary, 10-4, before he was upended by Christopher Perry from Trinity, 5-2.

Two other Springfield wrestlers finished fourth on the day to round out the Pride's top five-finishes.  Chase Parrot (Stamford, Conn.), who was ranked No. 10 in the nation at 149 this week, took fourth and began his day with a pin over Michael Pestana of Rhode Island College in 2:56 and edged NEC's Evan Fidelibus, 5-1. In the semifinals, Noah Caskey from Coast Guard edged Parrot, 3-2, before the junior fell to Joseph Rossetti from Williams, 7-5.

At 165, Jake Harry (Lancaster, N.Y.) used a 6-1 win over Christopher Fanelli of Centenary and a 3-2 triumph against Plymouth's Chase Anestis to reach the semifinals.  In the semifinal bout, Zach Needles of Messiah would prevail 4-3 before David Kurker from Southern Maine earned a 3-2 win. 

Additionally, Jacob Deguire (Schenectady, N.Y.) had a very strong showing at 157 as he went 5-2, with all of his victories coming by pinfall. 

Springfield's next competition comes on December 10 when it takes on Roger Williams.
