Babson Picks Up Two Shutout Victories Over Softball

Springfield, Mass. - April 10, 2021 - The Springfield College sotball team suffered its first setbacks of the season on Saturday afternoon to Babson College on Diane L. Potter Field in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. The Beavers took the opener, 5-0, before earning a 2-0 victory in the second contest.

Babson improved to 5-1 with the wins, while the Pride dipped to 4-2.

Springfield is schedule to travel to Coast Guard next Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 12 pm.

Game One - Babson 5, Springfield College 0

Led by a strong-pitching performance from Brooke Stock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and a four-run third inning, Babson took the opening game by a 5-0 margin.  Stock went the distance in the circle, surrendering just one hit while striking out 11.  The Beavers would account for six hits in the contest, with Sam Burggraf (Livingston, N.J.) registering a pair of RBI. 

For the Pride, Gillian Kane (New Canaan, Conn.) took the loss as she gave up five earned off six hits in seven innings of work while striking out a pair.  Sara Mulligan (Cheshire, Conn.) broke up Stock's no-hit bid with a one-out single to left in the bottom of the seventh.

The Beavers would strike for four runs in the top of the third as Cara Harnick (Sammamish, Wash.) led off the frame with a double down the left field line.  Elizabeth D'Agostino (Newton, Mass.) would follow with a run-scoring single, and Burggraf would later account for a two-run single to center to give the visitors a four-run lead.  Babson would tack on a run in the fourth when Kate Karamouzis (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) produced a single and would later score on a two-out basehit to left by Lexi Morris (Lexington, Mass.).

Game Two- Babson 2, Springfield College 0

In the second contest of the day, Babson struck in the fourth inning, getting two runs on three hits to account for the game's only runs.  After Jacqueline Paul (Burlington, N.J.) led things off with a single and moved to third on a passed ball and single from Burggraf, a single to right from Audrey Labouliere (Pipersville, Pa.) drove in a run. Caroline Taylor (Biddeford, Maine), who pinch ran for Burggraf, would later cross the plate on a sacrifice fly from Chole Joslin (Wyoming, R.I.).

For the Beavers, Moira O'Reilly (Columbus, Ohio) and Stock combined for the five-hit shutout, with O'Reilly striking out seven in three innings of work.  

For the Pride, Dana Serrichio (Stamford, Conn.) had a double in the contest and Kayla Stvan (Parlin, N.J.) drew a pair of walks.  Emily Gell (Trumbull, Conn.) gave up two runs in three innings of work, while Ashley Pugliese (Long Island, N.Y.) pitched the final four innings, striking out five and allowing just two hits.
