Box Score 2 April 24, 2021 - Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield College softball team hosted Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon at Potter Field and the Lyons took the early game by a score of 10-0, before Springfield bounced back and took a 9-2 victory in the second contest.
Springfield now holds a 7-3 record while Wheaton evens out at 4-4.

Game One - Wheaton 10, Springfield 0
Wheaton was powered by a strong outing in the circle by Sarah Pritchard, who tossed a six-inning no-hitter as she struck out three batters.
Gillian Kane (New Canaan, Conn.) struck out five batters in her four innings of play while Emily Gell (Trumbull, Conn.) pitched two relief innings in the loss.
Wheaton scored their first run of the game in the top of the second as the Lyons pulled off a double steal with two outs. The Lyons continued their scoring in the third with two runs thanks to a run-scoring groundout from Hannah Arkin and a sacrifice fly from Lindsay Whittles. From there, Wheaton would grow their lead to 10-0 by scoring four runs in the last two innings of play and securing the game one victory.
Game Two - Springfield 9, Wheaton 2
Ashley Pugliese (Long Island, N.Y.), who earned back-to-back NEWMAC Honor Roll selections this season, continued her dominance in the circle for the Pride as the first-year tossed a complete game. She struck out a a career-best 13 batters, while only giving up a pair of runs. The Pride scored nine runs off 12 hits in the victory, with Alli Olsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Ava Fernandez (Cedar Grove, N.J. each going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Springfield bats came alive in the bottom of the first as the Pride opened up the frame with five runs, highlighted by Emily Woznick (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and Hannah Salvietti (Cheshire, Conn.) each driving in a pair of runs.
The Pride continued to pour on the offense with three more runs in the second inning as Fernandez laced a run-scoring double to right field, before Dana Serricchio (Stamford, Conn.) would hit a sacrifice fly to score Fernandez. Gillian Kane would then bring in Katie Leacoma (Walpole, Mass.) to push the Pride's lead to 8-0 after two innings. In the bottom of the third, Fernandez would rip her second RBI double of the afternoon, giving Springfield a 9-0 lead. The Lyons would score two runs in the top of the fourth, but Pugliese and the Pride's defense would only allow one hit for the remainder of the afternoon, allowing the Pride to take a 9-2 victory.
