Springfield, Mass. - January 20, 2022 - In their final dual meet of the season, the Springfield College men's swimming and diving team was bested by visiting Amherst College, 162-118, on Sunday in Linkletter Natatorium.
In the meet-opening 200 medley relay, James Chan (Hong Kong), Antonio Anastasiades (Wakefield, Mass.), Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong), and Jordan McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago) combined to swim a 1:38.85 for the Pride.
Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.) won the 200 fly in 1:58.95 and James Chan was victorious in the 500 free following his time of 4:49.39 and also swam a 1:44.50 in a tightly contested 200 free. Jonathan Chan finished second in the 400 IM in 4:15.53 and later was the runner-up in the 100 fly in 51.84, while McMillan posted a 55.26 in the 100 back and completed the 100 free in 49.08.
In the 100 breast, Daniel Forsythe (East Providence, R.I.) raced a 1:02.59 and Dominic Marco (Bath, Maine) swam a team-best 22.68 in the 50 free and registered a 2:05.29 in the 200 IM. Owen Oldenburg (East Longmeadow, Mass.) produced a 2:04.52 in the 200 back, and in the 200 breast, Anastasiades tallied a 2:17.17.
Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) won the one-meter diving competition with a 253.88, while Sean Andrews (Framingham, Mass.) outdistanced the field to claim first-place points on the three-meter with a 298.73. The Pride closed out the afternoon with a 1:28.37 in the 200 free relay thanks to the efforts of McMillan, James Chan, Forsythe, and Jonathan Chan.
Springfield's focus now shifts to gearing up for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships slated for February 17-20.
