Springfield, Mass. - October 29, 2022 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team began its season with a tri-meet against Coast Guard on Saturday. The Bears were victorious by the score of 184-116.
Springfield started off the meet in impressive fashion with a time of 3:34.57 in the 400 medley relay from the squad of James Chan (Hong Kong), Daniel Forsythe (East Providence, R.I.), Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong), and Luke Zhongetti (Tolland, Conn.). James Chan won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.78, took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 48.27, and was second in the 500 free in 4:55.37. Jonathan Chan posted a top three-time in the 100 fly in at 52.16 and won the 200 IM in 1:59.17.
In diving, Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) won the one-meter diving competition with a 321.45 and posted a winning mark of 311.05 on the three-meter.
In the 1,000 free Ryan Goolsbey (East Lyme, Conn.) turned in a 10:28.64 and Jordon McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago) took runner-up honors in the 100 back in 55.85. Zonghetti sprinted to a 22.49 in the 50 free and Owen Oldenburg (East Longmeadow, Mass.) completed the 200 back in 2:05.70. In the 100 breast, Forsythe placed second in 1:01.46 and also had a 2:20.40 in the 200 breast.
Springfield closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Zonghetti, Forsythe, McMillan, and Dominic Marco (Bath, Maine) recorded a time of 1:28.24.
The Pride will compete next against MIT at home on November 5 at 1:00 PM.
