Box Score 2 Springfield, Mass. - April 15, 2022 - The Springfield College softball program earned a 6-2 win in the first game, before scoring six runs in the fifth inning to storm back in the second game to defeat Smith College, 14-6, and finish off the sweep in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
Springfield now holds a 23-5 record overall with a 6-0 record in league play.
The Pride will travel to MIT tomorrow for a 12:00 and 2:00 doubleheader.

Springfield 6, Smith 2
Mackenzie Doyle (Gloucester, R.I.) and Alli Olsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) each singled and were later was brought around off a Kristen Acocella (Redding, Conn.) double to give Springfield the 2-0 lead early. In the bottom of the third, Acocella added another RBI hit with a triple to the gap that allowed Witmer to score and add another to Springfield's lead at 3-0. Smith closed the gap in the top of the fifth as the Pioneers produced three hits, one of which was a two RBI single from Corey to bring Smith within the Pride at 3-2.
The Pride responded in the bottom of the frame with three more runs as Kayla Stvan (Parlin, N.J.) kicked off the scoring with an RBI double to right center, before Ava Fernandez laid down a bunt to score Natalie Stoner (Wynantskill, N.Y.). Doyle closed out inning with a single to left to bring in Stvan and push the Springfield lead to 6-2. Emily Gell (Trumbull, Conn.) closed the game and allowed zero hits in the innings to pitched to let Springfield take the victory.
Springfield 14, Smith 6
Through three innings, the game was locked in a 3-3 tie after Acocella doubled down the right field line to bring in Breannah McCann (San Diego, Calif.) in the bottom of the third. The Pioneers added three in the top of the fourth to take a 5-3 lead as the Pride let up a bases loaded walk and a two RBI hit from Ang. The bats came alive for Springfield in the fourth as the Pride buried six hits including a lead off triple from Fernandez to get the action started in the fourth, while Acocella closed out the fourth inning with a two-RBI single to put the Pride ahead 7-5.
Springfield did not let up in the fifth, scoring six more runs highlighted by a two-RBI single Doyle and a two-RBI triple from Acocella that let Springfield cruise to the 14-6 win.
