Box Score Springfield, Mass. - April 20, 2022 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse program shut out Wellesley, 24-0, on Wednesday afternoon on Stagg Field in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
Springfield improves to 10-5 and 6-1 in league play.
11 different student-athletes got in the scoring column for the Pride in the victory with Taylor Pichel (Hopkinton, Mass.) putting up four goals. Katie Martel (Hartland, Conn.) scored her 100th career point with a three-goal outting, while Jade O'Connor (Baltimore, Md.) and Carlee Crispens (Wallingford, Conn.) each contributed three goals in the win. As a team, the Pride took 43 shots and won 19 draw controls.
In net, Lorna Li and Hannah Pangborn combined for 10 saves for the Blue.
Springfield raced out to an early lead at the 6:47 mark as Pichel cashed in a free position shot to put the Pride ahead 6-0. The scoring continued in the second quarter as Lilly Vey (Foxboro, Mass.) put through a shot just nine seconds into the quarter to make the score 7-0 with 14:51 to play. The Pride would add seven more goals in the quarter, including three-straight from Pichel from 12:15 to 5:49 left on the clock, which made it 12-0. Arielle Johnson (Woodstock, Conn.) and O'Connor each scored before the half to make it a 14-0 lead.
The scoring continued in the second half as Abby Taylor (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) scored a pair in the third to help Springfield own a 20-0 lead into the fourth. Emily Zambarano (South Hero, Vt.) scored the first goal of the fourth quarter, before Crispens closed out the game with three-straight goals for Springfield.
The Pride will travel to Wheaton this weekend for a 1:00 road game.
