Men's Lacrosse Tops Emerson, 18-6

Boston, Mass. - April 9, 2022 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse program tied its season-high for goals with a 18-6 victory over Emerson on the road in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Springfield evens out at 6-6 and 3-1 in NEWMAC play, while Emerson falls to 11-3 and 1-2 in the conference standings. 

Riley Burgmyer (Somers, Conn.) had a game-high four goals for Springfield as the Pride put 28 shots on goal in the game. Alek Turi (Glastonbury, Conn.) posted a hat trick in for the second time this season, while Zac Schuette (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) totaled five points off three goals and a pair of helpers. Dean Pesce (Monroe, N.Y.) collected 10 saves en route to the victory. 

Skyler Celotto scored twice for Emerson while Nicholas Fulgione added four points in the loss. 

The Pride turned in three goals to start the game and take an early lead after Joe Maimone (Allendale, N.J.) fed Burgmyer at the 6:46 to make it a 3-0 score for Springfield. With 3:27 to go in the first, Peirce Eldredge buried a goal to stop the Pride's streak and make it a 3-1 contest. The Pride ended the quarter with two goals in final 13 seconds as Burgmyer notched his second of the half, before Steven Betsch (Port Washington, N.Y.) won the faceoff and dialed in a score with four seconds remaining to give Springfield the 5-1 lead after one. 

Emerson outscored Springfield, 3-2, in the second quarter, however, timly goals from Jackson Lane (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Turi allowed Springfield to own a 7-3 lead with one minute to go in the half. The Lyons nearly made it a 7-5 game in the final minute of the half Skyler Celotto scored with 27 seconds left, before taking another a shot with four ticks left, however Pesce stoop up the shot in a man down situation to keep the Pride's lead at 7-4. 

The Pride owned the third quarter by scoring four unanswered goals with the latest coming from Jarrett Nagengast (Bay Shore, N.Y.) at the 6:38 mark, which made it an 11-4 game for Springfield. Burgmyer added to the total for Springfield in the the early parts of the fourth as the junior buried an unassisted score to make it 12-4. From there, the Pride outscored Emerson 6-2 over the final 11:42 of the game with Schuette capping off the scoring with a unassisted goal around the left side to give Springfield a 18-6 victory. 

Springfield returns to non-conference play on Wednesday as it travels to No. 18 Wesleyan at 4:30.
