Williamstown, Mass. – November 18, 2023 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team fell to No. 15 nationally-ranked Williams College in the Chandler Athletic Center by a score of 189-95 this afternoon.
Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong) a first place finish for Springfield this afternoon as he touched the wall in the 100-fly in a time of 52.02. He was followed by Luke Zonghetti (Tolland, Conn.) in second in 55.69. Chan also finished fourth in the 100-back in 57.77, while Zonghetti finished third in the 50-free in 22.65.
Rocky Tang (Hong Kong) also was awarded first place points in the 200-IM as he clocked a time of 2:03.82.
Zonghetti teamed up with (Duxbury, Mass.), Viet-Ang Nguyen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Jordon McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago) for first in the 200-free relay in 1:27.83. McMillan went on to finish fifth in the 200-back in 2:08.07, Backlund took third in the 100-free in 48.44 and fourth in the 200-free in 1:48.99 and Nguyen took fourth in the 100-breast in 1:03.38.
Chan, Nguyen, Backlund and Zonghetti finished fifth overall in the 200-medley relay in 1:39.43.
In the diving well, Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) won the 1-meter board with 258.37 points and finished second on the 3-meter board with 219.22 points.
Springfield will have two weeks off before opening competition at the 2023 Gompei Invitational held by WPI. The three day meet begins on Friday, December 1.
