Manginelli's Title Helps Wrestling Earn Runner-Up At Petrofes Invitational

Mechanicsburg, Pa. - December 2, 2023 - Led by an individual title at 133 pounds by Gianni Manginelli (Dumont, N.J.), the Springfield College wrestling team placed second among the 13 teams competing in the Petrofes Invitational hosted by Messiah University this weekend. 

The host Falcons won with a team score of 176.5, followed by Springfield's mark of 146, while Alvernia was third with 143 points. 

Manginelli was dominant in cruising to a win at 133 pounds as he went 5-0 on the weekend with a pair of first-period pins and two victories by technical fall.  Teammate Jaden Colwell (Lords Valley, Pa.) made his return to the Keystone State and took runner-up in the weight class to Manginelli as he put togther three wins on the weekend, including a pin and technical fall.   Nicholas Rogers (Watertown, N.Y.) also had a tremendous weekend for the Pride at 197 pounds as he finished second in the weight class, going 3-1 in the tournament. 

Myles Leonard (Waldwick, N.J.) finished third at 165 pounds as he won five times on the weekend, including four by pin, and bounced back with a 18-3 technical fall against Anthony Taylor of Averett in the third-place match after previously falling to him in the quarterfinals.  Three decisions and a pair of pins from Ben Katz (Medford, N.Y.) resulted in a third-place finish for him at 285 pounds. 

At 125 pounds, Isiac Paulino (Athol, Mass.) was edged by the nation's fourth-ranked wrestler from Averett, 4-3, in the semifinals as he would eventually take fifth in the weight class, while Jack Callahan (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished sixth. 

Ryan Kozdra (Mahwah, N.J.) wrestled back tough through the consolation bracket to finish fourth at 141 pounds as he collected four wins in the tournament, while Casey Allen (Park Ridge, N.J.) added a sixth-place finish of his own at 197 pounds and Christian Quandt (Hillsborough, N.J.) took seventh at 285 in his collegiate debut. 

The Pride will return to Alden Street and host Roger Williams on Friday evening at 6 pm.
