Clermont, Fla. - March 12, 2023 - The Springfield College softball team delivered two more victories on Tuesday as it toppled Carthage, 12-3, before easing past Mt. St. Mary's, 6-1. 

Springfield will have an off day on Wednesday before turning their attention to Simpson and Franklin & Marshall on Thursday.

Springfield 12, Carthage 3 (5 innings)

Mackenzie Doyle (Glocester, R.I.) went 3-for-3, producing four RBI and scoring three times to lead a Springfield offense that erupted for 12 hits and scored eight runs in the fourth inning to cruise to the victory.  Emily Gell (Trumbull, Conn.) earned the victory in the circle as she gave up three earned off seven hits and struck out four. 

Springfield produced a pair of runs in both the first and second innings in a game where it never trailed.  The Pride took advantage of a bases loaded walk for its first run of the game as Alli Olsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) crossed home plate and Kristen Acocella (Redding, Conn.) made it a 2-0 contest following a fielder's choice.  In the second, Doyle ripped a one-out double to score Maggie Britt (Bridgeport, Conn.) and would come around to score after a passed ball and infield groundout by Olsen.

Carthage would string together four hits in the fourth inning to get back into the game as they scored three times, but Springfield would close the door on the contest as they scored eight runs with two outs on the board in the bottom half.  All told, the Pride would register eight hits in the ifourth nning, with Doyle providing the highlight as she emptied the bases with a three-run double.    

Springfield 6, Mt. St. Mary 1

Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) continued to produce for the Pride in the circle and in the cirlce  as she went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, while tossing a six hitter, allowing one earned run while striking out five.  Both Mackenzie Doyle (Glocester, R.I.) and Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) accounted for a pair of hits as well for the Pride.

 Neither team was able to generate much offense through the first three innings until the Pride broke through for three runs off three hits in the fourth. Kristen Acocella (Redding, Conn.) got things started with a leadoff walk and Springfield would later have runners on the corners following a DeRosa single. Springfield then broke the game open as Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, N.Y.) connected for a sac fly, Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) blasted a run-scoring double, and Pecchia ripped a RBI single.  

Pecchia would later lead off the fifth with a double and score on a two-out base knock from Doyle as Springfield's lead grew to 4-0.  Mt. St. Mary would get a run back in the sixth as it strung together a trio of singles, but DeRosa would limit the damage by getting out of a bases-loaded jam with a groundout to keep it a 4-1 contest. Springfield would respond in the top of the seventh with two more runs as Acocella and and DeRosa opened the frame with singles, leading to Lily McCauliffe (Greenwich, N.Y.) delivering with two outs as she cracked a two-run single to make it a 6-1 ballgame.
