Box Score Middlebury, Vt. – March 28, 2023 - Playing on the road for its seventh-consecutive game, the Springfield College men's lacrosse team was upended by nationally-ranked Middlebury, 15-8, on Tuesday afternoon .
Ranked seventh in this week's USILA Division III National Poll, Middlebury remains unbeaten at 7-0, while the Pride fell to 3-6.
Alek Turi (Glastonbury, Conn.) totaled three goals and an assist for the Pride and Kevin Tierney (Glastonbury, Conn.) added two goals and an assist of his own. Jack Hamilton (Falmouth, Mass.) finished the afternoon with six saves as Middlebury held a 43-34 advantage in shots in the contest.
After going down 4-0 in the opening four minutes of the game, Springfield used a 3-1 spurt to get within 5-3 following a man-up strike by Nicholas Savastano (South Salem, N.Y.) off a feed from Turi at the 4:54 mark. The Panthers would close out the first quarter scoring with a goal in the waning seconds to take a 6-3 lead entering the second.
The scoring slowed down in the second, with the Pride getting goals from Connor Roberts (Somers, Conn.) and Mason Nocito (Mahopac, N.Y.) to cut into Middlebury's halftime lead of 7-5.
Tierney opened up the second half burying a pass from Conor Tracy (Walpole, Mass.) to make it a one-goal contest at the 12-minute mark, only to have Middlebury net six unanswered goals over the next 14-plus minutes to have its lead balloon to 13-6 with just under 11 minutes remaining in regulation. Turi would tack on a pair of fourth-quarter goals for Springfield as Middlebury held on for the 15-8 win.
Springfield will play on Stagg Field for the first time since February 26 when it hosts Babson on Saturday at 12 pm.
