Springfield, Mass. – April 19, 2023 – The Springfield College men's lacrosse team fell to No. 18 nationally-ranked Wesleyan University by a 19-6 final on Wednesday evening on Stagg Field. Springfield fell to 4-9 on the year, while the visiting Cardinals improved to 8-5 in 2023.

Springfield used six different goal scorers tonight to account for its six goals as Jaiden Gaudet (Falmouth, Mass.), Matthew Webb (Northport, N.Y.), Alek Turi (Glastonbury, Conn.), Conor Tracy (Walpole, Mass.), Mason Nocito (Mahopac, N.Y.) and Kevin Tierney (Glastonbury, Conn.) all found the back of the net for the Pride. Wesleyan's Pat Doherty, CK Giancola and Justin Hazard all record hat tricks for the Cardinals.

Tracy scored the game's first goal just 1:14 into the contest for the Pride, before Wesleyan scored five straight. Before the end of the opening quarter, Tierney notched his first goal of the game making the score 5-2 after one. Wesleyan powered to six consecutive goals in the second for an 11-2 lead at the break.

Springfield notched the first goal of the second half just as it did in the first as Nocito finished a pass from Gavin Carzello (Westfield, Mass.). Wesleyan, however, outscored Springfield 8-4 over the final 30 minutes of play to account for the 19-6 final

Statistically, Wesleyan led in ground balls (35-25) and shots (53-37) and went 24-for-26 on the clear, while Springfield went 18-for-23 in transition and posted the lone man-up goal of the game in the fourth quarter.

Pride keeper Dean Pesce (Monroe, N.Y.) made a season-high 19 saves in the setback tonight.

Springfield will host Coast Guard in its final regular season home game of the year on Saturday, April 22 at 3:30 pm on Stagg Field.
