Gallagher Named Next Head Coach of Springfield College Women's Gymnastics Program

Springfield, Mass. – July 13, 2023 – Springfield College Director of Athletics, Dr. Craig Poisson, is pleased to announce that Diana Gallagher has been named the head women's gymnastics coach and assistant professor of physical education at Springfield College.

A graduate of both SUNY Cortland and Stony Brook University, Gallagher has held many positions in gymnastics including as Assistant Director of the USAG Development Program Girls' Team at Dunne's Gymnastics, as a USAG Level 10 Judge, as Head Coach for Flip-Flop Gymnastics in New York and most recently as a clinician and social media manager for Precision Choreography and My Gym Judge.

"We look forward to welcoming Diana to the Springfield College community as the head coach of our women's gymnastics program," said Poisson. "Diana's experience not only as a former Division III student-athlete, but as a coach at numerous levels, will provide our current student-athletes with the best experience possible in the gym as the program looks to continue to thrive both on the regional level and on the national stage."

Gallagher was a women's gymnastics student-athlete at SUNY Cortland where she graduated in 2008. During her time with the Red Dragons, Gallagher was a member of the SUNYAC All-Academic Team and placed tenth on the floor exercise at the NAIGC National Championships in 2008.

Gallagher earned her Master's Degree in creative writing and literature from Stony Brook University in 2010. While at Stony Brook, she served as a writing instructor and following graduation, was an instructor and program assistant for the Young Artists and Writers Project (YAWP).

While at Dunne's Gymnastics, Gallagher served as a coach for levels 3-10 and as a choreographer for balance beam and floor routines for levels 6-10. She coached qualifiers for the state, regional and national championships and created floor exercise lesson plans focused on strength, technique, and progressions for foundational skills resulting in regular performance improvements.

Meanwhile as a USAG Level 10 Judge, Gallagher, judged at levels 2-10 from USAIGC copper-platinum, Xcel bronze-sapphire, and Section XI NYSPHSAA competitions including New York USAIGC States (2015), the Manhattan Classic (2015 and 2016), and the Connecticut State Championships (2018).

"I'm thrilled for the opportunity to be part of this storied program and to work with the student-athletes for continued academic and athletic success," said Gallagher. "I'm deeply appreciative of the many coaches and teachers who have shaped my own perspective, and I look forward to bringing my fifteen years of coaching and faculty teaching experience to Springfield."

Gallagher takes over a women's gymnastics programs at Springfield College that saw the Pride finish as runner-up at the NCGA East Regional Championships for the second consecutive season in 2022-23.  On the national stage, Springfield finished fourth as a team at the NCGA Championships and had Christina Wygonik (Wading River, N.Y.) and Devon Rosier (Hudson, N.H.) earn national championship titles this spring. The duo were not only crowned at the NCGA Championships, but also earned CSC Academic All-America honors as just the third and fourth selections all-time in program history last spring.
