Springfield, Mass. – January 20, 2024 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team earned a double dual sweep over Wesleyan University and Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon inside Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Springfield defeated Wesleyan, 150-129, and Roger Williams, 181-98. The Pride are now 5-4 this season in dual meets and have won four in a row following the team's training trip to Florida.
Junior
Jordon McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago), sophomore
Viet-Anh Nguyen (East Longmeadow, Mass.), junior
Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong) and junior
Luke Zonghetti (Tolland, Conn.) teamed up for a first place finish in the 200-medley relay in a time of 1:36.67.
McMillan went on to finish first in the 100-back in 56.07 and third in the 500-free in 5:04.70 and Chan took a trio of second place finishes in the 200-free in 1:45.63, the 200-fly in 1:57.07 and the 100-fly in 51.20.
Sophomore
Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.) registered a pair of first place finishes in the pool for the Pride as he clocked a time of 21.29 in the 50-free and 47.93 in the 100-free. In the distance events, junior
Ryan Goolsbey (East Lyme, Conn.) took first in the 1650-free in 17:09.55 and second in the 500-free in 4:56.56. First-year
Gerold Gutierrez (Milford, Conn.) rounded out the list of individual winners on the swimming side of the meet as he clocked a time of 2:00.52 in the 200-back.
Backlund, Nguyen, McMillan and Zonghetti closed the meet with a 1:26.85 for first in the 200-free relay.
In the diving well, first-year
Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) posted a pair of NCAA Division III diving regional qualifying scores with a mark of 516.83 on the 1-meter board and a mark of 490.95 on the 3-meter board.
The men's squad will have next weekend off before returning to action on Saturday, February 3 with a dual meet at Trinity College in Hartford beginning at 2:00 pm.
