Williamstown, Mass. - January 6, 2024 - The Springfield College wrestling team competed the first time in 2024 as it appeared in the Williams Open on Saturday. 

In the non-scoring meet, Springfield had seven wrestlers finish in the top eight of their respective weight classes. 

Springfield had a trio of wrestlers finish as runner ups in the tournament, as Jack Callahan (Tewksbury, Mass.) took second at 125, as did Myles Leonard (Waldwick, N.J.) at 165 and Ben Katz (Medford, N.Y.) at 285.  Callahan produced a pair of pins and a technical fall before dropping a 9-6 decision in the championship, while Leonard notched a pin, major decision, and decision before falling in the title bout.  Katz earned a pair of wins by decision to start his decision before he bowed out with an injury in the championship. 

Nicholas Rogers (Watertown, N.Y.) had a pin and decision to open up his day, and after a semifinal setback, rebounded with a decision to take third place at 184.   At 157, Matt Duquette (Bristol, Conn.) took fourth and teammate Jared Swartz (Ashland, Mass.) placed fifth, while Parker Oliver (Pawtucket, R.I.) placed eighth at 174. 

Springfield will travel to the Budd Whitehill Duals which get underway on Friday.
