Springfield, Mass. – November 16, 2024 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team split its double dual meet against No. 6 Williams College and Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon inside Art Linkletter Natatorium.

Springfield defeated Wesleyan by a score of 190-103, but fell to the nationally-ranked Ephs, 172.5-121.5 to push its record to 2-2 on the season.

In the pool, Springfield picked up wins in three different events. Graduate student Matt Kenvin (Boca Raton, Fla.) registered victories in the 100-breast in a time of 58.91 and the 200-breast in 2:09.26, while Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.) won the 100-free in 47.89. Backlund also placed second in the 50-free in 21.48.

Kenvin and Backlund teamed up with Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong) and Luke Zonghetti (Tolland, Conn.) for first place in the 400-free relay in 3:10.50. Chan went on to place second in both the 100-fly in 50.96 and the 200-fly in 1:57.93. 

Matt Quinney (Belchertown, Mass.) also had a great day in the pool with runner-up finishes in both the 200-free in 1:47.39 and the 200-IM in 1:59.97, while Gerold Gutierrez (Milford, Conn.) posted a third place finish in the 200-IM in 2:08.07, a fourth place finish in the 200-back in 2:04.59 and a sixth place finish in the 100-back in 57.57.

Gutierrez, Kenvin, Zonghetti and Chan registered a fourth place finish in the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:34.58. Jordon McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago) rounded out the highlights for the Pride today in the swimming side of the meet as he posted a third place finish in the 100-free in 49.80 and a fifth place finish in the 100-back in 56.49.

In the diving well, Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) posted a win on the 1-meter board with an NCAA Diving Regional qualifying score of 290.85 and a second place finish on the 3-meter board with a score of 277.20.

Springfield will host Coast Guard next Saturday at 11:00 am.
