Springfield, Mass. – November 2, 2024 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team fell to No. 3 nationally-ranked MIT on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 200-98 in its season opener in Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Springfield took third in the 400-medley to begin the meet as
Jordon McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago),
Matt Kenvin (Boca Raton, Fla.),
Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.) and
Luke Zonghetti (Tolland, Conn.) posted a time of 3:32.57.
Individually, Kenvin had an outstanding meet in his debut on Alden Street as he won both the 100-breast in 57.96-seconds and the 200-breast in 2:09.43, while Backlund registered a first-place finish in the 50-free in 21.39-seconds and a runner-up finish in the 100-free in 47.59-seconds.
Ryan Goolsbey (East Lyme, Conn.) finished second in both the 500-free with a time of 4:58.01 and the 1000-free with a time of 10:23.55, while
Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong) took third in the 100-fly (51.35), fourth in the 200-fly (2:03.23) and fifth in the 200-free (1:47.93).
Matt Quinney (Belchertown, Mass.) also had a strong debut at Springfield with a third place finish in the 100-breast (59.26) and a sixth place finish in the 400-IM (4:28.00), while McMillan rounded out the swimming highlights for the Pride with a third place finish in the 100-back (56.58) and a fourth place finish in the 200-back (2:09.32).
Springfield's 400-medley relay team of McMillan, Quinney,
Dawson Milligan (Forestdale, Mass.) and Goolsbey clocked a time of 3:42.52 for fourth place overall.
In the diving well,
Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) secured first place on the 3-meter board with a score 259.96, while his 276.53 was good enough for second on the one-meter board.
