Worcester, Mass. – December 8, 2024 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team wrapped up action at the 2024 Gompei Invitational on the campus of WPI on Sunday evening.
Over the course of the three day meet, the Pride produced 3778.5 points for fourth place behind Bryant University, WPI and Bentley University.
Matthew Kenvin (Boca Raton, Fla.) led the way for Springfield on Sunday with a first place finish in the 100-IM in 52.04 and a seventh place finish in the 50-breast in 27.26. He also teamed up with
Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong),
Luke Zonghetti (Tolland, Conn.) and
Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.) for fourth in the 400-free relay in 3:06.17.
Chan went on to place third in the 200-fly in 1:52.75, while Backlund and Zonghetti took eighth and 11th, respectively, in the 100-free in 46.99 and 46.79.
Gerold Gutierrez (Milford, Conn.) notched a tenth place finish for Springfield in the 200-back in 2:01.06, while
Ryan Goolsbey (East Lyme, Conn.) paced the Pride in the 1650-free in 16:58.55.
Springfield will return to dual meet action on January 11 at Union College.
