La Crosse, Wisc. – March 15, 2024 - Gianni Manginelli (Dumont, N.J.) wrapped up his incredible career at Springfield College on the national stage as he wrestled in the 2024 NCAA Division III Championships on Friday.
The graduate student earned a spot in the national tournament in the 133 pound weight class after taking third at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championships in late February. Entering the tournament with a 26-4 record this season and a career mark of 93-22, Manginelli battled third-seeded Jaden Hinton from Baldwin Wallace in the opening round, but was forced to medically forfeit after an injury just 30 seconds into the bout.
Manginelli showed plenty of toughness and resolve finding a way back on the mat for the evening session, where he clashed with sixth-seeded Tyler Fleetwood of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, who took third in the weight class last year. Despite his injury flaring up again just 20 seconds into the bout, Manginelli continued to battle before ending his career by virtue of a 14-0 major decision.
