Middlebury, Vt. – September 15, 2024 – The Springfield College golf team opened up the 2024 campaign at the Duke Nelson Invitational and finished in 20th place at the conclusion of the two-day event.

In its 40^th year as a tournament, the Duke Nelson Invitational was played at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course and the Pride totaled 642 strokes in a field of 23 teams.  Springfield was 10 strokes better as a team on Sunday. 
 
In his first action with Springfield, Matthew Kumpulanian (Wilbraham, Mass.) had the Pride's best individual finish as he took 40th after rounds of 78 and 76.  On Saturday, he posted a team-best 78 as he shot a 37 on the front and had 11 pars on his round before turning in a 76 on Sunday with 10 pars and two birdies. After tallying an opening-round score of 85, David Girouard (Chicopee, Mass.) put together Springfield's best round of the weekend with a 74 on Sunday, including a 36 on the back nine, as he fired three birdies and 10 pars on the day.

 Amir Ardolino (Wilbraham, Mass.) tallied back-to-back rounds of 81, which included five birdies over the two rounds, while Justin Acquarulo (Branford, Conn.) registered an 82 and 86 on the weekend.  Aaron Murakami (South Burlington, Vt.) rounded out Springfield's scorers with a two-day total of 176, highlighted by an 85 on Sunday. 

Next weekend, Springfield will travel to compete in the Williams Invitational.
