Southwick, Mass. – September 29, 2024 – The Springfield College golf team placed third at the 2024 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships over the weekend at The Ranch Golf Club.
Playing at the Par 72 course that measured 6,747 yards, Springfield had a two-round score of 639, highlighted by a 318 on Sunday. Salem State rallied from a three-shot deficit to win the title with a 619, followed by MCLA's runner-up score of 627, to earn the MASCAC's bid into the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships, which will be held May 20-23 at Midvale Country Club in Penfield, N.Y.
Matthew Kumpulanian (Wilbraham, Mass.) earned MASCAC Rookie of the Year honors as he finished tied for sixth overall with a 158, which included a 77 on Saturday. In addition to being named the top newcomer in the conference, Kumpulanian secured a spot on the all-conference second team as he totaled 10 pars on Sunday.
Amir Ardolino (Wilbraham, Mass.) was named to the all-conference second team as well after he also posted a 158 in the tournament to tie for sixth. The sophomore registered two birdies and delivered a 38 on the front nine of his second round on Sunday.
Aidan Strebel (Branford, Conn.) was the Pride's next finisher as he took 13th in the championship with a 161, bolstered by a 77 on Sunday where fired an even-par 36 on the front and notched 12 pars on the afternoon.
David Girouard (Chicopee, Mass.) added a 77 of his own on Sunday with 13 pars, including eight in his final nine holes, to finish 14th with a 162.
Justin Acquarulo (Branford, Conn.) rounded out Springfield's scoring with his second-consecutive round of 85.
Springfield will next play in the Skidmore Invitational on October 12-13.
