Southwick, Mass. – September 28, 2024 – The Springfield College golf team is in a tie for third place after the opening round of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships, which are taking place at The Ranch Golf Club.
Playing at the Par 72 course that measured 6,747 yards, Springfield registered a first round score of 321 strokes as it began its quest to repeat as conference champions after winning the title in 2023. MCLA sits in first after turning in a 312, Salem State is three shots back with a 315, while Springfield is tied with Marymount with a 321 among the seven teams in the field. The winner of the two-day event will earn the MASCAC's bid into the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships, which will be held May 20-23 at Midvale Country Club in Penfield, N.Y.
Amir Ardolino (Wilbraham, Mass.) had the Pride's best first-round score and is in fourth place individually with a 75 as he had 10 pars, two birdies and shot a 36 on the back nine.
Matthew Kumpulanian (Wilbraham, Mass.) is in sixth place with a 77 as he also tallied a pair of birdies and had a 38 on his final nine holes.
Aidan Strebel (Branford, Conn.) recorded eight pars for an 84,
Justin Acquarulo (Branford, Conn.) birdied his first hole of the day and posted an 85, and
David Girouard (Chicopee, Mass.) fired a 37 on the front nine before finishing up with an 85 as well.
Springfield will continue the two-day event on Sunday as the action gets started at 12 pm.
