Men's Swimming and Diving Downs Wesleyan and Roger Williams

Middletown, Conn. – January 18, 2025 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team defeated Wesleyan University, 182-112, and Roger Williams University, 190-104, in a double dual meet on Saturday afternoon on the road.

Springfield has now defeated four teams in a row and is 6-3 in dual meets this season matching its win total from a year ago.

In a meet that featured mostly sprint events, Springfield won nine events including both diving boards, the 400 free relay and six individual swimming events.
 
The meet started with Dawson Milligan (Forestdale, Mass.), Matt Quinney (Belchertown, Mass.), Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.) and Luke Zonghetti (Tolland, Conn.) taking runner-up honors in the 200-medley relay in 1:35.81. Milligan went on to finish first in the 100-back in 55.04, Quinney took second in the 100-breast in 58.87 and third in the 500-free in 5:03.42, Backlund won the 100-fly in 52.55 and took second in the 50-fly in 23.19 and Zonghetti finished third in the 50-free in 21.96 and fourth in the 100-free in 49.04.

Matthew Kenvin (Boca Raton, Fla.) recorded first place finishes in the 50-breast in 27.10 and the 200-free in 1:44.97 in addition to a second place finish in the 100-IM in 53.48, while Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong) posted a first place finish in the 100-free in 47.61 and second in both the 200-free in 1:46.48 and the 50-fly in 23.19.

Jordan McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago) rounded out the individual highlights for the Pride in the swimming side of the meet as he won the 500-free in 4:58.63 and placed second in the 50-back in 25.54.

Chan, Backlund, McMillan and Zonghetti won the 400-free relay in 3:12.26 to close the meet.

In the diving well, Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) swept both boards with a score of 312.22 on the 1-meter board and a mark of 275.62 on the 3-meter board, both well above the qualifying mark for NCAA diving regionals.

Springfield will have a few weeks off before hosting Trinity (Conn.) for its final home meet of the season on February 1 at 12:00 pm.
