Springfield, Mass. – November 8, 2025 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team fell to No. 24 Coast Guard and Wheaton College in a double dual meet on Saturday morning inside Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Coast Guard defeated Wheaton, 185-94 and Springfield, 191-105, while Wheaton topped the Pride, 150-144.
Riley Hester (Barkhamsted, Conn.) was the lone winner for Springfield on the swimming side of the meeting coming in first place in the 1000-free with a time of 10:16.29. Hester also took runner-up honors in the 500-free in 4:58.07 and sixth place in the 200-fly in 2:08.38. Hester was the leadoff swimmer in the 400-free relay combining for a time of 3:25.27 alongside
Spencer Studley (Meriden, Conn.),
Charles Deaton (Bluffton, S.C.) and
Ben Terentiyev (Melrose, Mass.).
Matt Quinney (Belchertown, Mass.) also had a strong individual meet placing fourth in the 100-breast in 1:02.75 and fifth in the 200-free in 1:48.34. Quinney swam the leadoff leg of the 400-free relay alongside
Zavier Villanueva (Wilbraham, Mass.),
Viet-Anh Nguyen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and
Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.) for a time of 3:13.57.
Deaton went on to be Springfield's top finisher in the 200-back in 2:07.20, while Terentyev paced the Pride in the 200-breast in 2:28.39 and Backlund took runner-up honors in the 50-free in 21.71.
Dawson Milligan (Forestdale, Mass.) was Springfield's fastest swimmer in the 100-back clocking a 56.65, a the 100-fly in 55.49 and a 2:08.47 in the 200-IM.
In the diving well,
Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) swept both boards once again and led Springfield to a 1-2-3 finish in both disciplines. Butler eclipsed the NCAA Diving Regional qualification standard on both boards for the second straight week tallying a 318.83 on the 3-meter board and a 317.56 on the 1-meter board.
Andrew Testa (North Attleboro, Mass.) was the runner-up on board boards with scores of 235.13 (1-meter) and 236.71 (3-meter), while
Tyler Khongkham (East Hampton, Conn.) placed third on both boards with scores of 232.51 (3-meter) and 223.51 (1-meter).
Springfield will travel to Williams for a double dual with the host Ephs and Wesleyan University next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
