Springfield, Mass. – February 1, 2025 – In its final home dual meet of the 2024-25 season, the Springfield College men's swimming and diving team rolled past Trinity (Conn.), 166-75, on Saturday in Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Springfield produced ten wins in swimming events and saw
Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) once again sweep both diving events against the Bantams for its seventh dual meet win of the season.
Springfield began the meet with a first place finish in the 400-medley relay as
Dawson Milligan (Forestdale, Mass.),
Matthew Kenvin (Boca Raton, Fla.), Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.) and
Viet-Anh Nguyen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) teamed up for a time of 3:32.49.
Backlund and Kenvin went on to finish 1-2 in the 200-free in times of 1:46.30 and 1:47.59, respectively. Backlund also went 1-2 with Nguyen in the 100-free in 47.34 and 48.58. Nguyen also finished third in the 50-free (22.55) behind
Luke Zonghetti (Tolland, Conn.) who won the event in 21.99.
Kenvin also went on to finish first in the 100-breast in 58.41 and was followed by
Nick Hall (West Hartford, Conn.) in second in 1:02.80, while Milligan went on to finish second in both the 100-fly (56.17) and the 100-back (58.08).
Ryan Goolsbey (East Lyme, Conn.) earned a pair of wins for the Pride in the distance events as he touched the wall first in the 1000-free in 10:10.09 and first in the 500-free in 4:54.90.
Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong) and
Jordon McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago) rounded out the list of winners in the swimming side of the meet today as Chan won the 100-fly in 49.42, while McMillan won the 100-back in 55.64.
Goolsbey, McMillan, Zonghetti and Chan formed an all senior 800-free relay and combined for a first place time of 7:13.27.
In the diving well, Butler was outstanding again as he swept both disciplines with a 1-meter score of 465.90 and a 3-meter score of 496.36 – both with 11 dives completed.
Springfield will travel to Babson for its final dual meet of the year next Saturday at 11:00 am
