Worcester, Mass. – February 20, 2025 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team opened competition at the 2025 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships held at WPI.
Through tonight's first session, Springfield sits in fourth place with 71 points. Ahead of the Pride is MIT (103), Coast Guard (93) and Babson (77).
For the second consecutive season,
Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.), the defending NEWMAC Men's Diver of the Year, earned gold on the 3-meter board as he registered a score of 520.75. Butler claimed his third career gold medal at the NEWMAC Championships after sweeping both boards a season ago.
Springfield's "B" 800-free relay squad of
Jordon McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago), Ryan Goolsbey (East Lyme, Conn.),
Nick Hall (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Zavier Villanueva (Wilbraham, Mass.)registered a time of 7:03.70 for 14th overall – fourth in the "B" final. Springfield's "A" 800-free relay was disqualified in the championship final of the event.
Springfield will return to the pool tomorrow morning for day two of the 2025 NEWMAC Championships. Preliminary events featured in tomorrow's session include the 200-free relay, 500-free, 200-IM, 50-free and 400-medley relay. Action is slated to begin at 10:00 am from WPI.
