Worcester, Mass. – February 23, 2025 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2025 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships with a third place finish with 717.5 points over the four day meet.
Springfield's third place finish is its highest since the 2013 championships when the Pride took runner-up honors. This year, the Pride finished behind MIT (1334 points) and Coast Guard (1079) and ahead of Babson (704), Wheaton (601), WPI (596.5) and Clark (220).
At the conclusion of the meet, sophomore
Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) was named as the NEWMAC Men's Diver of the Year for the second time in as many seasons. Butler completed this year's championships with a first place finish on the 3-meter board and a second place finish on the 1-meter board.
Matthew Kenvin (Boca Raton, Fla.) highlighted the final night of the NEWMAC Championships with a gold medal and school record performance in the 200-breast as he won the event in 1:59.90 – an NCAA "B" cut time. Kenvin shaved nearly three seconds off his prelim swim time from this morning to win the event this evening.
Kenvin is the first men's swimmer to earn a NEWMAC title since Michael Normoyle completed the feat in the 200-breast at the 2016 Championship meet. Earlier this year, Kenvin broke Normoyle's event record and then broke his own record tonight to win the title.

Ben Terentiyev (Melrose, mass.) competed in the consolation finals of the 200-breast finishing in 14th (2:10.46) and 20th (2:14.86), respectively.

Matt Quinney (Belchertown, Mass.) and
Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.) also raced in the championship final placing sixth in 46.06 and 46.25, respectively.
Jordon McMillan (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago) placed 17th in the event in 46.77, while

Ryan Goolsbey (East Lyme, Conn.) and
Nick Hall (West Hartford, Conn.) competed in the championship finals of the 1650-free clocking times of 16:37.22 and 16:40.23 for sixth and seventh overall in the event.
