Babson Park, Mass. – February 8, 2025 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team registered a 135-108 win over Babson College on Saturday afternoon in its final dual meet of the regular season. The eight dual meet wins this season are the most for the Pride since 2009-10.
Springfield began the meet with a first place finish in the 200-medley relay as
Matt Quinney (Belchertown, Mass.),
Matthew Kenvin (Boca Raton, Fla.), Jonathan Chan (Hong Kong) and
Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.) clocked a time of 1:33.72.
On the swimming side of the meet, Springfield picked up wins in five individual events and both relays. Kenvin went on to win the 200-IM in 1:56.36 and place second in the 200-breast in 2:08.88, Quinney went on to win the 100-free in 48.18 and place second in the 200-free in 1:44.82 and Backlund went on to win the 50-free in 21.25.
Chan earned a first place finish in the 200-fly in 1:53.49, while
Ryan Goolsbey (East Lyme, Conn.) took first in the 1000-free in 10:14.46 and placed second in the 500-free in 4:53.16. Runner-up finishes by
Luke Zonghetti (Tolland, Conn.) in the 100-free (48.46),
Gerold Gutierrez (Milford, Conn.) in the 200-back (2:01.98) and
Nick Hall (West Hartford, Conn.) in the 1000-free (10:35.43) rounded out individual highlights today at Babson.
Backlund, Zonghetti, Chan and
Viet-Anh Nguyen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) capped the meet with a first place finish in the 200-free relay in 1:25.28.
Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) swept both boards once again as he produced a score of 365.78 on the 1-meter board and a mark of 353.18 on the 3-meter board.
Springfield is slated to open the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Thursday, February 20 at WPI.
