Springfield, Mass. - February 12, 2026 - Colby Wilson's '23 journey from Springfield College to the University of Maryland is rooted in people, purpose, and a relentless drive to keep growing. A Sport Management major and standout member of the Springfield College Track & Field team, Wilson credits his undergraduate experience with shaping both the professional and person he is today.
Currently serving as the Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Development at the University of Maryland, Wilson has previously held roles at the University of Pittsburgh and within NCAA Leadership Development. Across every stop, his motivation has remained consistent: the people around him. Supported by family, close friends, mentors, and peers across the sports industry, Wilson is fueled by a desire to make those in his circle proud while continuing to build a meaningful and impactful career. Professionally, he draws inspiration from colleagues he describes as "rockstars" in their fields, individuals who push him to keep learning, improving, and ascending alongside them.
Wilson's time as a member of Springfield College Track & Field played a major role in preparing him for life beyond athletics. Competing in individual events like the long jump while contributing to a team goal taught him how to balance personal accountability with collective success. That mindset carries directly into his work today, where he supports student-athletes in becoming well-rounded individuals who represent their institutions beyond competition.
Academically, Springfield's Sport Management program provided Wilson with real-world preparation he continues to use daily. From presentation experience and hands-on projects to impactful internships, the program's applied learning approach and invested faculty gave him both the skills and confidence to step into the sports industry.
Wilson attended the NCAA Convention in January of 2022 as part of the Student Immersion Program and the NCAA Career in Sports Forum in June 2022 as one of 200 student-athletes selected from across all three Divisions.
When reflecting on his favorite Springfield memories, Wilson points to two experiences that stand above the rest. On the track, winning the 2021 NEWMAC Championship in the long jump and finishing an undefeated season remains a career highlight. Off the track, however, his time as a New Student Orientation (NSO) leader holds a special place. Serving as a group leader, executive board member, and convocation speaker, Wilson describes NSO as one of the most fulfilling experiences of his life defined by authentic connections, joy, and meaningful moments that welcomed new students into the Springfield community. He shouts out Annie Warchol, Assistant Dean for Student and Parent Engagement and all the NSO leaders with much love!
Wilson was a six-time USTFCCCA All-Region selection in the 4x100-meter relay (Outdoor '21) and long jump (Indoor '22, Indoor '23, Outdoor '22, Indoor '23, Outdoor '23), three-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference award winner and two-time CSC Academic All-District selection. Wilson was successful in the long jump at the NEWMAC Championships over the past few years as he claimed gold and First Team All-Conference honors in 2021, silver and Second Team All-Conference honors in 2022 and finished in fourth place in 2023. At the end of his career, Wilson was selected as Springfield's representative for the NEWMAC Student-Athlete of the Year.
His advice to current students is simple but powerful: at Springfield College, whatever path you envision for yourself truly feels possible. The opportunities are there, the key is to jump in, take advantage of them, and fully embrace the experience.
From championship runways to developing student-athletes at the highest level, Colby Wilson's story is a testament to the impact of community, commitment, and the Springfield College experience.
