Springfield, Mass. – February 7, 2026 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team fell to Babson College, 181.5-116.5, in its final dual meet of the regular season on Saturday afternoon in Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Of the 16 contested events, Springfield won four swimming events and both diving events today.
Matt Quinney (Belchertown, Mass.) recorded a first place finish in the 200-IM with a time of 2:00.53 and also took second in the 100-breast in 58.86. At the start of the meet, Quinney teamed up with
Dawson Milligan (Forestdale, Mass.),
Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.) and
Viet-Anh Nguyen (East Longmeadow, Mass.)for second in the 400-medley relay in 3:31.30.
Backlund went on to win the 100-free in 47.82 and take third in the 100-fly in 53.70 before ending the meet alongside
Zavier Villanueva (Wilbraham, Mass.),
Charles Deaton (Bluffton, S.C.) and Nguyen for second in the 400-free relay in 3:15.88.
Greg Kratz (South Windsor, Conn.) notched a first place finish in the 500-free with a time of 5:08.17 and took third in the 100-back in 59.56, while
Nick Hall (West Hartford, Conn.) won the 1000-free in 10:29.78 and took fifth in the 200-IM in 2:12.43.
Milligan went on to place second in the 200-fly in 2:03.91 and third in the 200-breast in 2:17.85, Nguyen took second in the 50-free in 22.43, Villanueva finished third in the 100-free in 50.06, fourth in the 100-fly in 56.64 and fourth in the 200-fly in 2:08.20 and Deaton took third in the 200-back in 2:05.20 and fourth in the 200-free in 1:52.47.
In the diving well,
Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) was once again dominant in both disciplines with a sweep of both sides. Butler produced a 3-meter 11 dive score of 505.36 and a 1-meter 11 dive score of 500.93.
Springfield will turn its attention to the NEWMAC Championships, which begin on February 19 at MIT.
