Norton, Mass. - February 7, 2026 - The Springfield College women's track and field team placed second out of eight teams at the Wheaton Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Lyons won the meet with 156 points and were followed by Springfield (116), UMass Dartmouth (64), Trinity (45.50) and Mount Holyoke (42) to round out the top five teams. 

Four student-athletes finished within the top ten for the Pride in the one mile with Hannah McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) leading the pack coming in fifth in 5:34.77 and was followed by Meghan Sullivan (Easthampton, Mass.) in sixth at 5:39.36, Kayleigh Jensen (Salem, Conn.) in eighth at 5:40.56, and Sara St. Germain (Somers, Conn.) in ninth at 5:44.72. 

Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.) finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles at 7.97 and Ella Couchon (Windsor Locks, Conn.) came in sixth at 8.12. 

Peyton Knott (Leicester, Mass.) took the win in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line at 1:01.92 as Leah Castle (Ashford, Conn.) finished eighth at 1:06.44. Kami Wlodyka (Three Rivers, Mass.) came in first place in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:14.02 while Castle finished eighth at 3:19.19.

Sydney Meeks (Wynantskill, N.Y.) was the runner up in the collegiate invite 200-meter dash finishing at 26.33 while Grace Flattery (Swansea, Mass.) finished fourth in the collegiate open 200-meter dash at 27.27 and Abby Hemstrought (Clinton, N.Y.) came in eighth at 28.37. 

Brooke Ferrare (Waterbury, Conn.) won the 3000-meter run in 11:29.91 as the 4x400-meter relay team of Castle, Knott, Wlodyka and Taylor Desmarais (Berlin, Conn.) put together a fourth place finish at 4:29.21. 

In the throwing events, Springfield took three of the top four spots in the shot put with Hannah Debian (West Springfield, Mass.) winning the event with a throw of 12.07-meters. Emma Barnes (Saco, Maine) came in second with a mark of 11.95-meters, and Charlotte Gerow ( Tolland, Conn.) finished fourth at 10.99-meters. Debian also finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 13.60-meters. 

Autumn Bacik (Watertown, Conn.) finished third in the long jump with a mark of 5.00-meters as Aubrey Hughes (Liberty Hill, Texas) and Flattery tied for the win in the high jump with a mark of 1.53-meters.

The Pride will head to the Jumbo Invitational at Tufts and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at BU on Saturday.
