Springfield, Mass. – May 2, 2026 – Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.) broke a 40 year old program record to highlight the Springfield College women's track and field team's efforts at the 2026 New England Division III Championships on Saturday afternoon on Blake Track.
Connecticut College won the meet with 100 points and was followed in the top-three by MIT (66.5 points) and Tufts (59 points).
DeFosse ran a prelim time of 13.82 in the 100-meter hurdles breaking the program record time of 13.86 that was set by Janet Williams in 1986. She went on to finish first overall in the event on Saturday with a time of 14.10-seconds. Her time of 13.82 currently sits sixth nationally.
Springfield also produced four top-10 finishes on the day on the track as
Kristina Kyle (Watertown, Conn.)took fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:45.14, DeFosse took seventh in the 100-meter dash in 12.76,
Sydney Meeks (Wynantskill, N.Y.) placed seventh in the 400-meter dash in 59.02 and
Meghan Sullivan (Easthampton, Mass.) placed eighth in the 10,000-meter run in 40:39.42.
Peyton Knott (Leicester, Mass.)also recorded a 13th place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:18.96.
Grace Flattery (Swansea, Mass.) had a great afternoon at the regional championship as she took fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.29-meters and also cleared 1.57-meters for tenth in the high jump.
Charlotte Gerow (Tolland, Conn.) earned a seventh place finish in the discus with a throw of 36.95-meters.
Hannah Debian (West Springfield, Mass.) placed tenth in the shot put with a mark of 11.89-meters and 19th in the hammer throw with a mark of 43.76-meters. Behind Debian in the shot put was
Emma Barnes (Saco, Maine) with a mark of 10.82-meters.
Bailey McDevitt (Wakefield, Mass.) rounded out the highlights with a throw of 30.80-meters in the javelin for 17th place.
Springfield will travel to Williams College for the Farley Inter-Regional meet next weekend. There are now just two weekend meets left prior to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
