Women's Track and Field Finishes Third at the NEWMAC Championships

New London, Conn. - April 26, 2026 - The Springfield College women's track and field team finished third overall at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Saturday at Coast Guard. 

No. 11 MIT won the meet with 276 points and was followed by Coast Guard (121.5), Springfield (84.5), WPI (76), Babson (72.5), Wheaton (70), Smith (61.5), Wellesley (35), Salve Regina (13) and Mount Holyoke (9). 

The Pride were led by five podium finishes, including wins from Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.) in the 100-meter hurdles and Grace Flattery (Swansea, Mass.) in the triple jump. 

DeFosse won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.41 while placing sixth in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 12.42. Flattery won the triple jump with a mark of 11.53-meters and also placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.61-meters. 

Springfield saw three student-athletes within the top five of the shot put as Hannah Debian (West Springfield, Mass.) led the trio after finishing with a throw of 12.05-meters. Emma Barnes (Saco, Maine) came in fourth with a mark of 11.08-meters and Charlotte Gerow (Tolland, Conn.) came in fifth with a mark of 11.07-meters. Gerow took third in the discus throw with a mark of 37.74-meters as Barnes finished seventh with a mark of 35.49-meters. 

Kristina Kyle (Watertown, Conn.) registered a sixth place finish in the 1500-meter run, crossing the finish line at 4:49.08 and also came in sixth in the 5000-meter dash at 18:05.87. 

The 4x100-meter relay team of DeFosse, Ella Couchon (Windsor Locks, Conn.), Madison Mulas (Wilmington, Mass.) and Sydney Meeks (Wyantskill, N.Y.) finished at 49.50 for fifth while Mulas, Meeks, Couchon, and Peyton Knott (Leicester, Mass.) came in seventh in the 4x400-meter relay at 4:11.40.

Couchon came in seventh place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.94. Meeks led Springfield in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.74 and Knott finished the 800-meter run in 2:23.23.

The Pride will compete in the New England Division III Championships hosted by Springfield College on Friday and Saturday.
