Men's Track and Field Sits Fourth Following Day One of the NEWMAC Championships

New London, Conn. - April 24, 2026 - The Springfield College men's track and field team sits fifth following day one of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Track and Field Championships hosted by Coast Guard. 

No 9 MIT is currently in the lead with 89 points and is followed by WPI (32), Coast Guard (26), Babson and Springfield (21) and Wheaton (6). 

Four student-athletes finished in the top eight in the hammer throw as Peyton Blanchard (Kennebunk, Maine), Josh Stevens (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Nick Meisenkothen (Durham, Conn.) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively as Matthew Krysinski (Thompson, Conn.) came in eighth. Blanchard registered a 45.68-meter throw for the podium finish as Stevens registered a mark of 45.15-meters, Meisen with 43.38-meters and Krysinski with 41.29-meters. 

Alex McKenney (Ossining, N.Y.) placed sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.10-meters while Patrick Dahm (Feeding Hills, Mass.) finished eighth in the long jump with a mark of 6.32-meters and Azaiah Nanson (Blue Hill, Maine) came in eighth in the javelin throw, with a mark of 45.83-meters.

Elijah Quinn (Holyoke, Mass.) led Springfield in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:03.49 as Luca Kabel (Merrimack, N.H.) led the Pride in the 100-meter dash as he finished at 10.94. 

Mike Anderson (Cromwell, Conn.) will go into tomorrow's 110-meter hurdles final seeded second after finishing at 14.47 this afternoon as Isaiah Hannah (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) will be seeded sixth after crossing the finish line at 15.44. 

In the decathlon, Jeffrey Gao (Cambridge, Mass.) sits second after claiming one first place finish, two second place finishes and a third place finish in today's four events. Gao won the shot put with a throw of 10.02-meters while finishing second in the 100-meter dash in 11.62 and second in the long jump with a mark of 5.79-meters. He came in third in the high jump with a mark of 1.63-meters. 

The Pride will return for the second day of the championships tomorrow at 11:00 am at Coast Guard.
