New London, Conn. - April 24, 2026 - The Springfield College women's track and field team are in third place after the first day of competition at the 2026 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Track and Field Championships.
No. 11 MIT leads all teams with 96.5 points and is followed by Wheaton (23.5), Smith and Springfield (14.5) and Babson (14) to round out the top five.
In Friday's throwing events, Bailey McDevitt (Wakefield, Mass.) registered a fourth place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 35.86-meters while Hannah Debian (West Springfield, Mass.) finished fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 43.71-meters and Madilynn Van Etten (Cumberland, R.I.) came in seventh with a throw of 41.33-meters.
Meghan Sullivan (Easthampton, Mass.) finished sixth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 40:12.96. Autumn Bacik (Watertown, Conn.) led the Pride in the pole vault with a tie for eighth place with a mark of 3.10-meters as Julia Romano (Braintree, Mass.) led Springfield in the long jump with a mark of 4.77-meters.
Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.) will be the first seed in the 100-meter hurdles finals after posting the 11th fastest time in Division III this season of 14.23 in this afternoon's prelims. DeFosse will also be the third seed in the 100-meter finals after posting a time of 12.31 in this afternoon's prelims.
The Pride will start competition for the final day tomorrow at 11:00 am at Coast Guard.
